Yeay, all right :) OpenMONI is now officially dead. Not that anyone cares now

Thoughts & doubts..

Let's face it, I haven't committed a single line of code for quite a long time. That's mainly because I really don't have time for this now. I DON'T SAY OPENMONI IS DEAD, perhaps I would continue the development at some point.

At the moment the main problem is the obfuscated and messed up Xlib utilisation, otherwise I still think that the OML interpreter and the layout of the whole thing is jolly OK.

features

  • OpenMONI is written in plain C that makes it extremely fast, even on old machines.
  • OpenMONI is very resource friendly.
  • OpenMONI is fully scriptable, but as the interpreter is built in, it's still only one process.
  • So openmoni does not require any other scripting languages, like python, perl etc.
  • The OpenMONI scripts - so called OML scripts - are run in a multithreaded environment.
  • The OML scripts are precompiled to the OML virtual machine (interpreter) before run - as usually they run continuously many times - which makes it faster.
  • OpenMONI doesn't require large libraries -gtk, QT..- Xlib is enough for basic visualisation.
  • OpenMONI only supports OpenBSD at the moment.
  • Even with wmii

This screenshot shows openmoni in wmii. As there is no background pixmap in wmii, we enforce the grey background. Giving up the positioning and the size of the window we let wmii to do that.
