Heading toward "Second"

Although no new feature will be presented in Second, the vast majority of the previous release's code has been rewritten. The virtual machine has changed a lot, I expect a slight performance improvement, but the main thing is the modularity with every step getting more and more enlarged. The new virtual machine is also more simple and easier to understood. The new compilation process will also support this modularity, you will be able to compile the virtual machine even if you have no X installed.

First6 is mainly a bugfix release. Netload module is used in the new scope plugin, but here is why you want to update:

  • MEMLEAK fixed : destroying fifo structure doesn't leak memory any more.
  • Supporting netload monitoring instead of packet capture.
  • X transparency bug fix.
  • BUGFIX : compiler messed up the stack while compiling `if'.
  • BUGFIX : compiler messed up the stack while compiling TAIL.
  • BUGFIX : division by zero causes the machine to abort.
  • BUGFIX : not initializing a structure caused segfault occasionally

CVS version contains netload module

I am not going to implement the planned pcap support -instead I've implemented the netload module - because of the following reasons:

  • Netload is more simple.
  • Although knows less, other monitors don't implement more.
  • Pcap requires privilege workaround as normal user can't
    read the capture device.

So the new scope.oml is thoroughly rewritten to cooperate with netload module.

Check out the CVS version, and feel free to rewrite the plugins to your own taste!

This release comes with PNGSUPPORT enabled by default + two nice pngs (I've drawn them) + a bugfix in X code. The bug occurred if and only if the window manager - or any other program - didn't draw a picture on the background. In this case the OpenMONI background has to be filled with solid colour.

Please if you encounter a bug or any kind of problem let me know about it. Write it in sourceforge bug tracker, forum, or use this page's forum if you want. Thnx.

Take a look at the new screenshot - OpenMONI with PNG support

Link PNG support is currently available only in CVS version, and it remains an option not a dependency. You can use OpenMONI without any port or package - though installing libpng is not a big pain - is it?! It improves themebility - you could repaint the whole window for your own taste.
